So this is something that i thought I would share with any budding developers out there. Mainly sharing it because it took me absolutely ages to get some good footage that i could use in the trailer that I made.
There are going to be a few pieces of software that you will need to purchase in order to be able to capture some decent footage, but what i’ll do first is explain the process of what needs to happen for you to be able to capture the footage from your device.
What needs to happen first is that whatever is done on your iPhone needs to be mirrored onto a desktop computer, either mac or pc.
Then whatever is displayed on your computer needs to be captured using a screen capture program.
So the my mirroring program of choice was Air Server.

Great little app, really easy to use, simply need to install, connect to the wi-fi that your iDevice is connected to and your pretty much good to go!! Just need to activate Air Play on your device and whatever is done on the device should be mirrored on your desktop.
Standard License is $14.99
Once you have your device display on your desktop you will need to capture what ever is shown on the screen. My program of choice was Screen Flow.

Priced at £63.85.
Really easy to use again and allows you to export in a number of formats and resolutions as well. These 2 programs in conduction gave me some really smooth footage which was used in the trailer, tried a few other programs which just didn’t get the same results.

Looking at the games that have already been released on App Store at the moment I can only think to myself that the indie developer is stuck in the shadow of large publishing companies like Chillingo.
It dawns on me now that trying to keep up with the £0.69p releases of games from EA is a near impossible task, as an Indie Developer you have to create something pretty special to be seen and trying to get a feature from Apple seems to be the only way to get noticed on the App Store.
Another thing to note about the App Store is how the new iOS 6 format has affected visibility of an app/game. Any recent releases do not have no where near as much clout as they would have on the old App Store format.
Hopefully in the near future we can have some of the success that other Indie Games have had in the past.
So I just wanted to write a post about my experience in releasing my first commercial iOS game. Now i think it is pretty safe to say that the process has not gone without stress, put it this way, my game was released on the 20th of November and I have had about 6 hours of sleep…….in total!! In a few days I might be hallucinating.
Anyways as you may know my game, Guardian: Tego’s Fate has been released and so far it has got a pretty good response, the people playing are finding the game pretty addictive and in general are liking the look and feel of the game. At the moment I am treating the first week of release as time for me to take into account any major issues with the game and incorporate them into the next update.
The design of the game and also the gameplay itself are good enough to be featured by Apple, whether they think the same is a different matter entirely. Will be posting more updates on the game’s progress, how it was made, how we approached the press and much more.
Peace

A Dolphin's Fate is in Your Hands
Chased and hunted for meat, taken away from their pods to be shipped to zoos across the globe - the dolphin population is rapidly dwindling in numbers. This should not be the case, and something can be done. Be a hero for the dolphins.
In this game, your challenge is to protect the dolphin, Tego, in order for him to escape his hunters. Pursued with multiple spears, and nature's death spell in a thunderbolt, use your magic orbs to create mighty defense combinations and skillfully manage your power to delay time to repel these attacks. You are Tego's guardian, and you have the power to save his life.
Guardian: Tego's Fate is inspired by the 2009 Oscar winning documentary, The Cove. The documentary shines a light on the activities being carried out in Taiji, Japan, which involves the illegal fishing of dolphins. Through this effort, we hope to share the grim reality these dolphins face, and encourage people to take action and make a difference well beyond the game.
